Phil and Nikki’s Wedding – The Victorian Barn, Dorset – Saturday 14th May 2016

Phil and Nikki did not need any input in devising their wedding breakfast menu. Between them, they put together a very eclectic mix of starters and mains, choosing things they love to eat when they’re out, as well as meals they make together at home. What a personal touch!

The couple and all their helpers really outdid themselves with the decoration of The Victorian Barn. They kept in simple and white, with small trees acting as centrepieces (these looked gorgeous!), and foliage and lights dotted around the bannisters overhead. A sweetie table satisfied Phil’s Haribo cravings throughout the day, and the classic bar was decorated with beautiful little wooden hearts. The whole concept was truly stunning, and walking into the room itself gave you an overwhelming feeling of calm.

On arrival from the church, guests enjoyed an array of lovely canapés:
Honey and Redcurrant Jelly Glazed Cocktail Sausages
Mini Yorkshire Puddings with Rare Roast Beef and Fresh Horseradish Cream
Filo Basket of Home Smoked Duck Breast, Mango and Pomegranate Seeds
Parmesan Shortbreads with Basil Pesto and Somerset Brie (v)

Canapés polished off, everyone took their seats in the hall for the speeches, which were by far the quickest speeches I have ever experienced in my career! Though it was definitely just quality over quantity as there was much laughter leaking out from the hall.

STARTER
Tomato, Red Onion and Basil Pesto Bruschetta (v)
Beef Carpaccio
Stuffed Peppers with Halloumi, Couscous and Herbs (v)
White Bloomer and Whole Meal Multi-Seed Bread Rolls with Salted Butter Roses

MAIN COURSE
Ham, Egg and Chips (The Groom’s absolute favourite meal ever!)
Chicken Breast, stuffed with Dorset Blue Vinny, Sweet Potato Mash and Honey-Glazed Vegetables
Roasted Summer Vegetable Risotto with Balsamic and Toasted Hazelnuts (v)

For their dessert, we served up the couple’s wedding cake, garnished with forest fruits, edible flowers and jugs of cream.

A few hours later, after having a number of bevvies and even more boogies, guests tucked into an array of nibbles to soak up the booze:

LOTS of Cheese
Crackers and Home Made Apple and Date Chutney
Grapes, Celery and Cherry Tomatoes
Exotic Fruit Skewers
Little Fruit Tartlets
